Türkiye urges Israel to end airstrikes in Syria amid reconciliation efforts

Türkiye urged Israel on Wednesday to halt its airstrikes in Syria, characterizing them as damaging to efforts toward unity and reconciliation in the war-torn country, according to a statement from a Turkish official on social media.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Keceli, writing on the social media platform X, expressed Türkiye’s position on the developing situation in southern Syria, emphasizing dialogue as the path forward.
“Türkiye fully believes that the violent incidents in southern Syria will be resolved through dialogue and common sense between the Syrian administration and local elements in the region, and those involved in the incidents will be brought to justice,” Keceli stated.
The official noted that Syria is currently in a “sensitive” period, and called on the international community, particularly neighboring countries, to fulfill their responsibility to contribute to security and stability while supporting steps toward social reconciliation.
“In this context, Israel needs to end its airstrikes that are damaging the efforts for unity and integrity in Syria,” Keceli said. “Türkiye will continue to support reconciliation and peace efforts among all elements that make up Syrian society.”
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, where Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria over recent years, often targeting what it claims are Iranian-linked military positions.
