Halk TV’s owner acquires another television channel in Türkiye
Opposition-aligned Halk TV’s owner, Cafer Mahiroglu, announced the purchase of Flash Haber on Nov. 26, describing the agreement as “a strong partnership in the struggle for free press and democracy.”
Mahiroglu made the announcement in a post on X, stating, “A new channel has joined the Halk TV family,” advocating the move will make Halk TV’s operations even stronger.
Mahiroglu said:
Over the past five years, despite facing millions of TRY in fines and broadcast suspensions, Halk TV has never wavered in its commitment to the public’s right to access information.
Through enduring pressure and penalties, we have grown Halk TV into what it is today. Now, our family is expanding with the addition of a new channel. Flash Haber, a pioneer known for its revolutionary identity and as one of Türkiye’s most significant channels, has joined the Halk TV family, making us even stronger. Undoubtedly, Flash Haber will stand alongside Halk TV as a strong ally in the fight for free press and democracy.
