Türkiye’s state-owned telecommunication company, Turk Telekom announced on Tuesday the signing of a connection agreement with the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) for the establishment of the Sivas Zara Solar Power Plant to commence construction in the early months of 2025.

The project will address 15% of Turk Telekom’s annual electricity consumption, poising to become one of Türkiye’s largest unlicensed facilities. The Sivas Zara Solar Power Plant is expected to generate approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours of energy annually, positioning it as one of the country’s leading renewable energy facilities.

Turk Telekom also plans two other projects

Turk Telekom CEO Umit Onal emphasized the company’s ongoing investments that shape Türkiye’s digital future and extend to all corners of the country.

“We integrate sustainability principles at the core of our strategies while focusing on technologies that design the world of tomorrow,” said Onal. “Through the digital transformation solutions we offer in various cities, we contribute to energy savings across a broad spectrum—from traffic management and public safety to irrigation and lighting.”

Reinforcing the importance of renewable energy investments for Türkiye’s energy independence and sustainable future, Onal noted plans to utilize the remaining allocated capacity for additional projects in two other cities.

Onal also highlighted the company’s innovative use of 5G, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things technologies to promote resource efficiency and support green transformation through solar and wind energy solutions.

“Our solar power plant investments aim to reduce carbon emissions and help manage climate change risks,” Onal stated. “We are preparing to implement a 96 MWe capacity facility in Sivas Zara, part of our total allocated capacity of 405.8 MWe.”

“Through technologies that enhance the future, we remain dedicated to building a better world for future generations,” he concluded.
