Türkiye's Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced that the country plans to hold its 5G tender in August, with the first 5G signals expected to be received in 2026.
Speaking at a press conference regarding the "Global Transport Corridors Forum" to be held June 27-29, Minister Uraloglu outlined the timeline for Türkiye's 5G implementation when asked about the 5G tender schedule.
"If there are no setbacks, we plan to hold the tender in August. We will receive the first signal in 2026, and initially, rather than covering the entire country, we think we will cover the densely populated provinces and proceed gradually with a program similar to 4.5G," Uraloglu said.
The Transport Minister emphasized that his priority as the Transport and Infrastructure Minister is investment rather than revenue generation for the state.
"My expectation is clearly more investment, meaning providing better communication infrastructure and 5G capabilities rather than collecting more money for the public," Uraloglu stated.
Uraloglu also revealed that comprehensive discussions have been held with telecommunications operators regarding the 5G implementation.
"We spoke with our operators both individually and collectively multiple times. We held multiple meetings coordinated by our vice president, along with the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance," the minister explained.
The minister indicated that Türkiye's 5G deployment will follow a phased approach similar to the country's 4.5G implementation, starting with major population centers before expanding nationwide.
The gradual rollout strategy aims to ensure efficient coverage while managing infrastructure development costs and technical implementation challenges.
