Türkiye’s biggest banks post record $7.5B profit in first half of 2025

Türkiye’s banking sector delivered strong results in the first half of 2025, reflecting resilience amid economic pressures. The country’s top 10 banks posted a combined net profit of ₺305 billion ($7.5 billion), up 32% year-over-year, according to non-consolidated financial statements.

Sector overview

The combined assets of Türkiye’s 10 largest banks surged 40% in the first half of the year, climbing to ₺32.5 trillion ($793.91 billion) from ₺23.2 trillion a year earlier, according to non-consolidated financial statements.

Ziraat Bank, VakifBank, Türkiye Is Bank, Halkbank, Garanti BBVA, Akbank, Yapi Kredi, QNB Bank, Denizbank, and Kuveyt Turk had the largest asset size in the country during the first half of the year.

Top banks by assets

Ziraat Bank retained its position as the country’s largest lender, with assets amounting to ₺6.9 trillion in the first half. VakifBank followed as the second-largest, with nearly ₺4.6 trillion in assets. Türkiye Is Bank ranked third with ₺3.98 trillion, while also maintaining its lead among private banks.

Halkbank placed fourth at ₺3.65 trillion, and Garanti BBVA came next with ₺3.2 trillion. With these results, the top five banks all surpassed the ₺3 trillion threshold in total assets.

Akbank recorded assets of 2.82 trillion, ranking sixth, while Yapi Kredi followed closely with ₺2.8 trillion. QNB Bank, DenizBank, and Kuveyt Turk completed the list, with assets of ₺1.8 trillion, ₺1.6 trillion, and ₺1 trillion, respectively. Kuveyt Turk remained the only participation bank in the top 10.

  • QNB Bank: 42.9%
  • VakifBank: 40.7%
  • Garanti BBVA: 40.3%
  • Halkbank: 39.8%
  • Türkiye Is Bank: 37.7%
  • Kuveyt Turk: 37.7%
  • DenizBank: 31.2%
  • Akbank: 29.2%
  • Yapi Kredi: 28.8%

Profitability

Ziraat Bank recorded the highest profit in the first half with ₺64 billion, marking an increase of 108.9%. Garanti BBVA ranked second with ₺53.6 billion, followed by VakifBank with ₺30.1 billion, Türkiye Is Bank with ₺29.8 billion, and DenizBank with ₺27.1 billion.

These were followed by Akbank with ₺24.9 billion, Yapi Kredi with ₺22.7 billion, QNB Bank with ₺21.9 billion, Kuveyt Turk with ₺18.9 billion, and Halkbank with ₺12 billion.

Altogether, the 10 largest banks posted a combined net profit of ₺305 billion in the first half of 2025, representing a 32% increase compared to the previous year.

Deposits and participation funds

Deposits, the primary funding source for banks, reached ₺21.2 trillion in the first half, up 36% year-over-year.

  • Ziraat Bank: ₺4.5 trillion
  • Halkbank: ≈₺3 trillion
  • VakifBank: ₺2.9 trillion
  • Türkiye Is Bank: ₺2.6 trillion
  • Garanti BBVA: ₺2.2 trillion
  • Akbank: ₺1.8 trillion

The total cash loan stock of the 10 banks reached ₺17.1 trillion in the first half. Ziraat Bank provided the largest support at ₺3.6 trillion. Other banks were as follows:
