The Food Standards Agency (FSA) of the U.K. issued a public health warning and ordered the recall of Neosis Schokolade Love of Dubai chocolate bars after it was discovered that the product contains peanuts, which are not listed on the packaging.
According to the statement for FSA, the product, a 95-gram chocolate bar manufactured by Turkish Neosis Gida, is widely available in U.K. supermarkets.
Food businesses across the United Kingdom have been instructed to immediately stop selling the product, withdraw remaining stock, and recall any items already sold to customers.
According to the FSA, the products were supplied by Black Sea Trading Ltd., a company that has so far remained uncontactable, further complicating response efforts.
The FSA confirmed that it is coordinating with local enforcement authorities to investigate the supply chain, remove affected items from circulation, and notify allergy-focused organizations about the potential hazard.
Individuals who have purchased the chocolate are advised not to consume it—particularly those with peanut allergies—and instead dispose of it safely at home.
Consumers are also encouraged to report the place of purchase to their local Trading Standards office in Great Britain or Environmental Health Officers in Northern Ireland.
Under U.K. food safety law, products may be “withdrawn” from sale or “recalled” from customers when deemed unsafe.
A Food Alert for Action—such as in this case—is typically issued when immediate enforcement measures are needed to protect public health.
