New England Conservatory’s musical gems shine in Türkiye museum
Huseyin Parkan Sanlıkol Musical Instruments Museum hosts a valuable collection of 52 works from the New England Conservatory
Art lovers gathered at the Huseyin Parkan Sanlıkol Musical Instruments Museum (MEM) in Bursa, Türkiye, to admire the 52-piece New England Conservatory collection featuring valuable instruments like a 1613 short-handled lute, a cittern with keys from 1790, and a guitar from 1840.
The addition of instruments by the New England Conservatory has further enriched the museum’s collection, which has hundreds of instruments from many countries, including Türkiye.
The instruments donated to the Nilufer Municipality Huseyin Parkan Sanlıkol MEM in 2022 by the New England Conservatory, one of the best music schools in the world, took their place in the museum after a meticulous repair and restoration process.
The New England Conservatory section of the museum has an array of instruments, including the iconic 1613 short-handled lute, the 1790 cittern with keys, and the 1840 guitar, alongside a collection of 19th-century instruments, including the gunibri, sarinda, rebab, tambura, tavus, buchel, kagurabue, sihu, sho, di, shamisen and biwa, sourced from diverse geographical origins.
Nilufer Municipality’s Mayor Turgay Erdem they are happy to add new collections to the museum, which add value to the city’s culture.
Stating that they have preserved significant heritage and passed it to future generations, Erdem thanked Sanlikol for his considerable contribution to the donation, as well as Kita Logistics and Turkish Cargo for their support in transporting the instruments from the U.S. to Türkiye.
He also thanked Murat Caf for his expertise in repairing the instruments.
