Turkish ballerina Nilay Tahiroglu has advanced to the final of the 15th International Moscow Ballet Competition, putting her in a position to become the first Turkish dancer in the contest's history to win a medal.
The competition is being held from June 25 to July 5 at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, one of the world's best-known ballet venues. This year's edition has brought together 362 dancers from 35 countries across several categories.
Tahiroglu entered the competition directly after being exempted from the preliminary selection process because of her earlier achievements in international ballet contests.
After making it through the first stage of the three-round competition, she represented Türkiye in the semifinal. Her performance there secured her a place among 18 finalists.
In the semifinal, Tahiroglu performed a contemporary choreography created by Elif Firat, an artist with the State Opera and Ballet.
As a finalist, Tahiroglu will receive a special diploma given to dancers who move beyond the semifinal stage. She is also set to perform in the final with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra.
Throughout the competition, Tahiroglu has been coached by choreographer Volkan Ersoy.
