Three Turkish nationals were abducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina in April, according to local media. The incident is believed to be linked to organized migrant gangs operating in the region.
Türkiye Today confirmed that three individuals were released after Türkiye's diplomatic efforts. The individuals attempted to cross the Croatian border to seek asylum in European Union countries.
Türkiye Today sources noted that the incident does not pose any threat to tourists in the country as three individuals were involved with the gangs to cross Crotian border in order to enter Schengen zone.
Bosnian press reports that the victims’ families received disturbing video footage showing the three men in captivity after mid-April. The recordings, allegedly sent by the kidnappers themselves, depict scenes suggesting the men were forcibly taken and are being held against their will.
While the exact location and timing of the abduction remain unclear, the evidence strongly points to a targeted operation by Afghan-origin gang members who are active on the Croatian border.
Bosnian sources say Bosnia-based foreign gangs usually use video recordings to create pressure on families. However, sources note that there is no threat against tourists visiting the country as gangs solely target individuals who attempt to cross the Croatian border for asylum purposes.
Following the abduction, the efforts of Turkish authorities led to the release of three individuals. Bosnian sources confirm that three individuals have already been in Türkiye for two weeks.
