Health specialists in Türkiye have raised concerns about beauty salons and tattoo studios that operate without proper licenses and oversight, often referred to unregistered businesses. They emphasized that such places may use unapproved products and unsafe methods, creating risks with potentially irreversible consequences.

Dermatologists caution against infections and complications

Professor Asli Tatliparmak from the Dermatology Department of Memorial Bahcelievler Hospital explained that procedures performed by non-specialists in these unregulated settings have been increasing.

She noted that both uncontrolled tattoo applications and unsupervised cosmetic treatments could cause bacterial and viral skin infections, allergic reactions, tissue damage, scarring, and long-term complications.

She pointed out that the root of many recent complications following botox and filler injections was the use of products not approved by the Ministry of Health. “If there is an infection during or after the procedure, topical antibiotics may help in mild cases, but more severe infections may require drainage or surgery,” she said. She added that allergic reactions often require antihistamines or cortisone creams, while pigmentation disorders and skin spots after beauty procedures frequently need laser treatment or advanced medical skincare.

Tatliparmak warned that such treatments are not only lengthy but also do not always resolve without leaving marks. She urged people to check whether a center has health certifications, to ask about sterilization procedures, and to make sure that inks, fillers, or other materials are officially approved. She also recommended patch tests for individuals with allergies and reminded that skin should only be entrusted to dermatologists.

Beauty experts highlight hygiene and licensing

Beauty specialist Sultan Kargun also underlined the dangers of uncertified salons. She explained that some centers operate without licenses or trained staff, which could result in complications that are impossible to reverse.

“People should never prefer places that lack certification and licenses,” she said, stressing that hygiene is critical because the procedures directly affect the skin. She added that not every treatment is suitable for every person, and not every product should be used on every client.

Tattoo artists warn of viral diseases and permanent damage

Tattoo artist Ece Bas emphasized that individuals who get tattoos in unlicensed places expose themselves to the risk of contracting serious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV. She explained that hygiene is not just about single-use needles but also about ensuring that ink containers, spray bottles, and protective covers are replaced and sterilized each time.

She added that low-quality ink may trigger allergic reactions and that improper or overly deep application could cause permanent scars. “If a poor tattoo is made, you may need to have it removed, but even laser treatments are not always effective,” she said. “People may end up undergoing multiple sessions and then having to cover the marks with another tattoo, which adds further costs.”
