Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli has warned that wildfire risks across Türkiye will reach critical levels next week due to a sharp rise in temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds.

In a statement shared on social media, Minister Yumakli emphasized the urgent threat posed by extreme weather, saying: “According to meteorological data, temperatures across the country are expected to rise by 6 to 12 degrees Celsius (42.8 Fahrenheit to 53.6 Fahrenheit). Humidity levels are projected to drop below 20%, and strong winds will intensify. These factors elevate the risk of wildfires to the highest level.”

'Causing wildfires no different from harming nation'

Yumakli reiterated that starting wildfires is a serious threat to national well-being, stressing: “We have always underlined that causing a forest fire is no different from firing a bullet at the homeland. With the most powerful air and land fleet in our history and our heroic forest teams, we continue to protect our Green Homeland with all our strength.”

Call for public vigilance

The minister called on citizens to act with maximum responsibility and caution during this critical period. His key warnings include:

  • Do not burn stubble.
  • Avoid lighting fires in or near forested areas.
  • Never discard cigarette butts on the ground.
  • Dispose of all waste in designated trash bins.
  • Equip agricultural machinery with water tankers and fire extinguishers.
  • Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling 112.

“Let us protect our future, our breath, and our hope—together,” Minister Yumakli concluded.
