Turkish authorities detained 21 suspects, including six active military personnel, in an investigation into irregularities in transport tenders within the Turkish Land Forces Command that reportedly caused public damage.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Monday that the arrests were made following an investigation by the Military Crimes Investigation Bureau.
Personnel working in the Transportation Management Department Branch of the Land Forces Logistics Command were found to have colluded with private company owners to gain benefits, according to a statement from the prosecutor's office.
The investigation determined that between 2019 and 2024, procurement documents for 18 tenders were fraudulently altered. Vehicle numbers and kilometer amounts were intentionally inflated in payment claims, resulting in unauthorized payments to companies.
The Ministry of National Defense Inspector General's Office inspectors calculated public damage at ₺23.58 million ($546,594).
The prosecutor's office ordered the detention of six military personnel working in control organizations and 15 company owners and representatives on charges of "breach of contract obligation" and "bribery."
