A 5.2 magnitude earthquake shook the waters near Gokceada Island in the Aegean Sea on Saturday, according to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles), with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, AFAD said.
Bogazici University’s Kandilli Observatory, another authoritative source on seismic activity in Türkiye, recorded the earthquake’s magnitude as 5.4 and its depth at 12.2 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in surrounding areas and several aftershocks followed.
"We are well, people should not be worried," Mount Athos governor Alkiviadis Stefanis told Greek state TV ERT.
One man visiting a monastery was taken to hospital with a hand injury after running and falling. There were no other reports of injury.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
