Ankara authorities detained 209 suspects in operations targeting terrorist organizations, as the capital prepares to host the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit on July 7-8, 2026.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said detention warrants had been issued for 241 suspects as part of an investigation into terrorist organizations.
According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, the Ankara police and the gendarmerie counterterrorism units launched operations to uncover the actions and activities of terrorist organizations across the country.
The suspects were identified as members of Daesh, DSIH, TKP/ML, TKIP, MLKP, DKP/BOG, DHKP/C, and THKP/C terrorist organizations.
Simultaneous operations resulted in the detention of 209 suspects, with efforts ongoing to capture the remaining individuals.
In a separate Istanbul-based operation targeting the DHKP-C terrorist organization, 24 suspects were detained across eight provinces.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said 37 suspects had been identified as part of an investigation aimed at exposing DHKP-C activities.
The suspects were found to have been active within the organization and had effective remorse statements against them, according to the investigation.
Authorities also determined that the suspects had participated in press statements in line with the organization's ideology and that intelligence information indicated they could carry out actions.
After prosecutors issued detention warrants, police carried out simultaneous raids at 46 addresses in Istanbul, Ankara, Hatay, Izmir, Erzincan, Tekirdag, Antalya and Kocaeli.
Police detained 24 suspects in the operation and seized numerous organizational documents and digital materials during searches at the addresses.
Efforts to capture the fugitive suspects are continuing.
The NATO Heads of State and Government Summit is scheduled to take place in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026, at a crucial moment for the future of the alliance.
The summit also coincides with the 74th anniversary of Türkiye's NATO membership, marking the country's long-standing commitment to the North Atlantic Alliance and its principles.
