Brazilian Army Commander General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva visited Turkish defense manufacturer Otokar's facilities on Oct. 31, showcasing growing defense cooperation between Brazil and Türkiye, as the Brazilian military evaluates advanced armored systems for modernization.
"We are honored to host them and thank them for their visit," Otokar stated, welcoming the high-level Brazilian military delegation.
During the visit, Paiva and his delegation inspected Otokar's modern armored vehicle systems, including the tracked Tulpar infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) with the 30 mm MIZRAK Turret, as well as a light tank variant equipped with the Italian Leonardo HITFACT MkII turret.
The Brazilian delegation examined the Tulpar modular armored tracked vehicle, which can be configured with weapon systems ranging up to 120 millimeters, and received detailed briefings on its technical specifications and capabilities.
Otokar's Tulpar is among the candidates in Brazil's New Tracked Armored Family Program, which aims to provide the Brazilian Army with modern armored systems.
The program seeks to equip the Brazilian Army with vehicles featuring integrated weapon systems with a caliber of up to 120 millimeters, representing a significant modernization initiative for Brazil's mechanized forces.
The Brazilian Army has recently narrowed its selection to four finalists in its New Tracked Armored Family Program, with Türkiye's Otokar Tulpar joining Sweden's BAE Systems CV90, Spain/Austria's GDELS ASCOD and Germany's Rheinmetall Lynx following an international evaluation of 11 companies.
Three of the four shortlisted candidates are offering integration with the Leonardo-manufactured HITFACT MkII turret system, the same weapon system used in Brazil's recently acquired Centauro II BR vehicles, with plans for assembly in Brazil.
The Tulpar, which made its debut with the HITFACT MK-II turret in 2023, features a modular design that can accommodate weapon systems ranging from 7.62mm to 120mm, including air defense and mortar systems.
The program aims to provide the Brazilian Army with vehicles featuring integrated weapon systems with a caliber of up to 120 millimeters.
"Tulpar is a multipurpose platform with high lethality, modularity and growth potential that can be tailored to meet current and future operational requirements," according to Otokar's given overview sheet.
"The modularity perspective is designed to increase operational flexibility by using common components and a common chassis over a wide range of vehicle variants," Otokar said.
"Tulpar comes in several variants that share common subsystems. The common platform can accommodate a medium tank, infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier, reconnaissance vehicle, command and control vehicle, air defense, ambulance, repair and recovery vehicle, mortar vehicle, and other vehicle variants," according to Otokar.
Otokar participated in LAAD 2025, held in Rio de Janeiro in April 2025.
At the exhibition, Otokar showcased the Tulpar modular armored tracked vehicle equipped with the 120-millimeter HITFACT MkII Leonardo turret.
At the exhibition, discussions were held regarding new business partnerships, including local production.
An earlier technical delegation from Brazil inspected Otokar's production line and became familiar with the vehicle's design and manufacturing process.
