Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, said construction of the YHT Gar–Kuyubasi–Esenboga Airport Metro Line is planned to begin in 2026, as authorities revise the project to meet rising passenger demand and improve connectivity across the capital.

In a written statement, Uraloglu shared the latest developments on the Esenboga Airport Metro Line, which will be built in Ankara.

Uraloglu said the project has undergone significant updates in response to growing transportation needs.

“The line, which was initially planned to start with a transfer from Kuyubasi Station, has now been redesigned to start from the YHT Gar,” he said.

“The new route will extend to Esenboga Airport in a way that directly covers Ankara’s major transportation and residential centers. Thus, uninterrupted, fast, and comfortable transportation will be provided from the YHT Gar to Esenboga Airport.”

He said revisions were made not only to the route but also to station entrances and exits, station layouts, plan-profile drawings, and other operational criteria to ensure full integration into Ankara’s transportation system and alignment with current needs.

Line to span 36 kilometers with 12 stations

Uraloglu said the YHT Gar–Kuyubasi–Esenboga Airport Metro Line has been designed as a 36-kilometer route with 12 stations.

“Within the scope of the line, there will be 12 stations: YHT Gar, Hastane, Demirlibahce, Siteler, Solfasol, Kuyubasi, Kuzey Ankara, Pursaklar, Saraykoy, Fuar, Esenboga and Yildirim Beyazit University,” he said.

“We have now reached the final stage. We are targeting the start of construction works for the YHT Gar–Kuyubasi–Esenboga Airport Metro Line in 2026,” he added.

Uraloglu also highlighted metro projects previously carried out in Ankara by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

“To date, as the ministry, we have built a total of 44.5 kilometers (27.6 miles) of new metro lines in Ankara with the Kizilay–Cayyolu, Batikent–Sincan, Kecioren–AKM, and AKM–Gar–Kizilay metro lines,” he said.

He added that the ministry also modernized the 36-kilometer Sincan–Kayas line and put it back into service.

“As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we extended Ankara’s 23.1-kilometer rail system line by 80.5 kilometers, increasing the total rail system length to over 103 kilometers,” Uraloglu said.
