President Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced support for the proposal to broadcast corruption trials involving municipalities live on national television, backing a call made by MHP leader Devlet Bahceli.
Following his party’s group meeting, Erdogan responded to questions from reporters about Bahceli's remarks, saying, "In my opinion, it is a very good proposal. May it bring good outcomes."
The proposal comes in the wake of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), governed by the main opposition CHP.
Bahceli, speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting on Wednesday, had stated: “The CHP chairman previously demanded that court proceedings be broadcast live. If he insists on this, and if transparency before the public is truly desired, then we also support this call. Let the truth be revealed. Let the people of Türkiye witness it and form their judgment accordingly.”
CHP leader Ozgur Ozel also endorsed the idea, referring to his previous "3T" principle, which he described as “a terror-free and democratic Türkiye, non-custodial trials, and live broadcasts on TRT.” Ozel added, “Mr. Bahceli’s statement is a meaningful step for a stronger Türkiye, especially in light of current regional dynamics.”
