President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in a virtual meeting of the coalition of the willing on Ukraine, Türkiye’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said Tuesday.
Duran said the meeting reviewed the latest situation in the Russia-Ukraine war, steps taken toward ending the conflict, and ongoing peace initiatives.
Erdogan told participants that Türkiye would continue its diplomatic efforts to facilitate direct contact between Kyiv and Moscow to achieve a “just and lasting peace” as soon as possible.
He said Türkiye remains in communication with both Ukrainian and Russian officials and is prepared to host direct negotiations in Istanbul.
According to Duran, participants expressed the view that a cease-fire arrangement covering energy and port infrastructure could create favorable conditions for negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement between the parties.
Representatives from 35 countries joined the online meeting and exchanged views on the steps needed to secure lasting peace.
Duran said several senior Turkish officials attended the meeting with Erdogan, including Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, Chief Foreign Policy Adviser Akif Cagatay Kilic, Deputy Chair of the Security and Foreign Policy Board Cagri Erhan and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Deputy Chairman Omer Celik.
