Turkish nationalist leader Devlet Bahceli, chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party, said escalating tensions have intensified discussion of possible World War III scenarios and proposed the creation of a new global peace mechanism following failed U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad.

In a message sent to a live program on Turkish broadcaster TV100 and shared via his party’s official account on X, Bahceli, a close ally of President Tayyip Erdogan, said the collapse of negotiations between Washington and Tehran poses a threat to global peace.

“Developments have caused World War III scenarios to be discussed more loudly,” Bahceli said.

“Under these circumstances, we propose that, upon the call of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the United States, Russia, China, Türkiye, and the European Union develop a new mechanism under a ‘World Peace Council.’ We believe Türkiye could host such an initiative as well,” he added.

Iranian and U.S. delegations concluded 21 hours of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, early Sunday without reaching an agreement.

Over 3,000 people have been killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, while Tehran has launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.

A fragile two-week ceasefire was recently announced, but diplomatic efforts have yet to yield a lasting settlement.

MHP has previously pushed alternative global alliances

Bahceli’s proposal is not the first of its kind from the MHP ranks.

In March, MHP Deputy Chairperson Ilyas Topsakal traveled to Moscow on Bahceli’s instructions to promote a proposed Türkiye-Russia-China alliance against what the party describes as a “U.S.-Israel evil coalition,” he told Russia’s Vedomosti newspaper.

“Our party leader, Bahceli, tasked me with this visit to Moscow to hold talks with political parties, bureaucrats, and intellectuals and to explain the content of this initiative in detail,” Topsakal said.

He added that the MHP’s unofficial condition for maintaining its alliance with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party ahead of the 2028 elections is not ministerial positions but the adoption of a strategic cooperation program with Russia and China.

Bahceli, a key ally of Erdogan, had already called in September 2025 for the formation of a strategic alliance between Türkiye, Russia, and China to counter what he described as an “evil coalition” led by the United States and Israel.

Russia has since expressed interest in the proposal, with Moscow’s top diplomat in Türkiye describing the idea as “very interesting” and “quite logical.”
