Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan condemned Israel as a "rogue actor blinded by 'Greater Israel' dreams under the Netanyahu regime" during the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers Annual Coordination Meeting at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.

Speaking as chairman of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council during the 80th U.N. General Assembly's high-level week, Fidan identified two urgent risks facing the region.

"First, the genocide in Gaza and Israel's efforts to annex the West Bank and forcibly displace Palestinians.

Second, Israel's calculated expansionism and destabilization strategy that threatens the security and stability of our entire region," Fidan said.

"Israel has become a rogue actor blinded by 'Greater Israel' dreams under the Netanyahu regime," he added.

Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of OIC countries adopting a unified stance and called for continued joint efforts to stop all international arms and ammunition shipments to Israel.

Call for legal action, Palestinian recognition

Fidan emphasized the importance of strengthening the legal struggle by ensuring that the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court (ICC) processes become "tools that end impunity."

He highlighted the importance of recent momentum toward recognizing the State of Palestine to achieve full UN membership.

"We must expose Israel's crimes before the international community," Fidan stated.

Later addressing Syria's situation, Fidan emphasized that the country's stability cannot be separated from broader regional security.

"Syria's stability cannot be considered separate from the stability of our wider region. Stopping Israel's crimes in Syria is equally vital," he said.

The foreign minister noted that Syrians would need the support of OIC members, particularly during the reconstruction process.

Fidan also drew attention to increasing anti-Islamic sentiment globally, stating, "Islamophobia is rising. Racist actions targeting Muslim communities continue. We must show a collective response to these issues."

Cyprus and Western Thrace issues

The foreign minister identified the Cyprus issue and the situation of the Muslim Turkish minority in Western Thrace as two crucial foreign policy matters.

"I call on all OIC member states to support the inherent rights of Muslim Turkish Cypriots and establish direct contact with them," Fidan said.

He added that the Muslim Turkish minority in Western Thrace and the Muslim Turkish population in the Dodecanese Islands "continue to face serious violations that prevent them from enjoying even their most basic rights and freedoms."

Throughout his address, Fidan emphasized the need for unified action among OIC members, stating, "As OIC countries, we must adopt a common stance."

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, brought together foreign ministers from OIC member states to coordinate positions on critical regional issues, with particular focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and broader Middle East stability.
