Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Qatar on Wednesday-Thursday to discuss the expanding strategic partnership between the two nations and regional issues, including Gaza and Syria, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.
The visit will focus on evaluating the strategic partnership developing across all sectors between Türkiye and Qatar, as well as new areas of cooperation for the future period, ministry sources said.
Fidan's discussions are expected to include preparations for the 11th meeting of the High Strategic Committee, scheduled to take place in Doha this year under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
This marks Fidan's third visit to Qatar this year, following previous trips on April 27 and Feb. 2-3.
The meetings will address regional concerns, particularly Gaza and Syria, with discussions expected on recent international steps toward recognizing the State of Palestine.
Fidan is expected to reiterate Türkiye's appreciation for Qatar's mediation efforts alongside Egypt and the United States to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and express readiness to support all constructive initiatives.
The current status of negotiations for a Gaza cease-fire will be evaluated, along with additional steps that could be taken to stop Israel's attacks on Gaza and implement a two-state solution.
As the current chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers Council, Türkiye will also exchange views on the upcoming OIC meeting called at Türkiye's initiative.
The ministers will evaluate Türkiye and Qatar's joint efforts to establish stability and security in Syria, as well as potential cooperation projects that could be implemented together.
Fidan is expected to emphasize the importance of continuing joint efforts for capacity building in Syria and stress that efforts by certain actors, particularly Israel, to prevent Syria from achieving stability should not be permitted.
The High Strategic Committee represents the highest institutional framework of Türkiye-Qatar relations, meeting annually since 2015 with rotating host countries under the leadership of President Erdogan and Emir Al Thani.
Through 10 meetings held to date, 107 agreements have been signed covering all areas of bilateral cooperation.
The committee's last meeting took place in Ankara on Nov. 14, 2024, with the next meeting scheduled for this year in Doha.
Cooperation between Türkiye and Qatar continues to strengthen in multiple sectors, including trade, investments, contracting, tourism and energy.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani visited Türkiye in June to attend the 51st OIC Foreign Ministers Council Meeting in Istanbul and participated in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in April.
