Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend the fourth Türkiye-Egypt-Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Cairo on June 20-21, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, as regional mediators regroup following the postponement of U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland.

Pakistan's foreign ministry said Friday the four-way meeting would bring together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt to "discuss regional developments and exchange views on issues related to peace, security and stability."

Egypt's foreign ministry said the meeting would be followed by expanded talks and a joint news conference.

Turkish FM expected to praise mediation, urge vigilance

During his Cairo visit, Fidan is expected to express satisfaction with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that ends the U.S.-Iran war and to commend the efforts of the signatory parties, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

He is also expected to emphasize the importance of Pakistan's mediation and the contributions of other countries involved in the process leading to the agreement's signing.

Fidan is expected to state that Türkiye will continue its efforts to help the parties reach a lasting peace agreement at the end of the 60-day negotiation period, while underscoring the need to remain vigilant against any factors that could jeopardize the understanding reached between the parties during this process.

He is also expected to note that the importance of coordination and cooperation among the four participating countries has once again become clear in the recent period.

According to ministry sources, Fidan is expected to describe the quad mechanism as established to strengthen relations among regional countries, draw the necessary lessons from recent crises, and address regional problems through joint efforts grounded in a sense of regional ownership.

He is expected to stress the importance of giving the format an institutional framework and expanding it with new participants when the time comes.

Fidan expected to press for pressure on Netanyahu over Gaza, Lebanon

Fidan is also expected to state that increased international pressure on the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is needed to end the occupying, aggressive and provocative actions by Israel in Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem and Lebanon.

He is expected to reiterate that resolving the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution is key to peace, stability and security in the Middle East and that the four countries will continue working toward that goal alongside other regional states.

Fidan has held close consultations with regional counterparts on regional issues for some time. The four foreign ministers first met in this quad format on March 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A second meeting was held on March 29 in Islamabad, and a third took place on April 18 in Antalya, Türkiye, on the sidelines of the Fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

At these meetings, the four countries have assessed the U.S./Israel-Iran war and its negotiation processes, along with the Gaza peace plan and other regional issues, within a framework of regional ownership aimed at producing regional solutions, reducing tensions and strengthening security and stability in the region.

Egypt's foreign ministry had initially said the Cairo meeting would be held in the resort town of El Alamein before updating the location to Cairo.
