Many major roads in central Istanbul are set to close on Sunday ahead of Galatasaray’s championship celebrations, the Istanbul Governor’s Office has announced.
According to the Governor’s Office, several key arteries in Fatih district will be closed to traffic starting at 12:00 p.m. local time (GMT+3) and will remain inaccessible until the event concludes.
The closures include:
To ease congestion and guide drivers around the blocked areas, officials have recommended several alternative routes, including Vatan Street, Millet Street, Org. Abdurrahman Nafiz Gurman Street, Onuncu Yil Boulevard, and the Eurasia Tunnel, which connects the European and Asian sides of the city beneath the Bosphorus Strait.
The celebration marks a significant milestone for Galatasaray as the club secures its 25th national title, earning its fifth star under the Turkish Football Federation’s emblem system—each star represents five championship wins. The festivities will begin at exactly 19:05 local time (GMT+3), a symbolic hour that reflects the year of the club’s founding in 1905.
The Yenikapi venue, often used for large public gatherings and political rallies, is expected to welcome tens of thousands of fans, turning the shoreline into a sea of red and yellow as Galatasaray supporters come together to commemorate the team's latest triumph.
