Authorities in Bodrum, one of Türkiye’s best-known coastal tourism districts, have demolished 45 illegal structures in the first five months of 2026 as part of an ongoing effort to crack down on unauthorized construction.
The municipality said the latest demolitions were carried out in Peksimet and Yalikavak neighborhoods by teams from the Building Control Directorate and the Public Works Directorate.
As part of the same process, municipal teams also inspected a residential site in Akyarlar where demolition orders had already been issued.
The demolition there was postponed after homeowners pledged to remove the illegal additions themselves within 10 days. The municipality said work would continue according to the planned schedule for illegal structures whose legal procedures have been completed and whose demolition decisions are final.
According to the municipality, 45 illegal structures were demolished in Bodrum during the first five months of the year.
Of these, 36 were removed under Türkiye’s Zoning Law, known as Law No. 3194, while nine were demolished under the Gecekondu Law, which covers unauthorized or informal housing.
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci said the fight against illegal construction was vital for the future of the district.
He said the municipality would maintain its firm stance against unauthorized building in order to protect Bodrum’s natural beauty, historic fabric and quality of life.
