Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on the international community Friday to block what he described as Israel's attempts to sabotage the ceasefire in the region.

He said that halting Israeli aggression must be the top global priority during a joint press conference with Bangladeshi Foreign Affairs Adviser Khalilur Rahman in Dhaka.

Israel turning region into war zone

Fidan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government was deliberately turning the entire region into a battlefield to prevent a two-state solution for Palestine.

"Israel continues its genocide in Gaza, which has opened deep wounds in the conscience of the international community, and adds new unlawful moves every day in the West Bank targeting the two-state solution," Fidan said.

"The priority for the international community must be stopping Israel's aggression and eliminating the war environment in the region," he added.

Turkish top diplomat also called for an end to Israel's occupation and attacks in Lebanon, saying a definitive halt to hostilities and the restoration of calm there was essential.

He welcomed progress in U.S.-Iran negotiations while urging caution.

"We welcome the progress achieved in the negotiations between Iran and the United States. We also hope that these talks will reach concrete results and pave the way for lasting peace and stability," he said, adding that restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and returning to pre-war conditions was a "necessity" for global energy and security.

Fidan underlined the importance of Pakistan's mediation efforts toward making the ceasefire permanent, saying Türkiye was actively supporting those efforts.

He warned that parties must avoid steps that could jeopardize the diplomatic process, saying, "It is essential to prevent Israel's attempts to sabotage the ceasefire."

Türkiye and Bangladesh pledge to double bilateral trade to $2B

Fidan congratulated Rahman on his election as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling it "a very important indication of the respect the international community has for Bangladesh."

The two ministers discussed deepening bilateral ties across a broad range of sectors. Fidan said the two sides had discussed raising the bilateral trade volume from $1.3 billion to $2 billion.

On the margins of the meeting, Fidan and Bangladeshi Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Protection of Cultural Heritage between the governments of Türkiye and Bangladesh.

"I hope this text, which demonstrates our determination to protect the common heritage of humanity, will be beneficial for our countries," Fidan said.

Rahman said Türkiye was "an extremely important partner" for Bangladesh, including as a key backer of its U.N. General Assembly presidency bid.

"Türkiye is an extremely important partner. A very important partner that supported Bangladesh's candidacy for the U.N. General Assembly presidency," Rahman said, adding that Bangladesh would not forget the support.

Rahman also thanked Türkiye for sending election observers to Bangladesh's parliamentary elections and said Turkish investors could benefit from investment opportunities in Bangladesh's special economic zones.

Fidan to visit Rohingya refugee camps at Cox's Bazar

Fidan said Bangladesh bore a "humanitarian responsibility" on behalf of all of humanity in hosting more than 1 million Rohingya Muslims.

"The tragedy faced by Rohingya Muslims, unfortunately, continues. I would like to once again emphasize that Bangladesh, which has been hosting more than 1 million Rohingya for years, is making a historic sacrifice on behalf of all humanity," he said.

Fidan said Türkiye was working in solidarity and coordination with neighboring countries and relevant organizations to find a lasting and just solution to the Rohingya issue, and that Türkiye was "making intense efforts to keep this crisis on the agenda of the international community."

Fidan said he would visit Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, where he planned to review the activities of Turkish institutions, including Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) the Red Crescent and the Diyanet Foundation, and to visit the Turkish field hospital operating in the camps.

He said Türkiye would continue providing humanitarian assistance and supporting the safe, dignified and voluntary return of Rohingya to their homeland.

Rahman said the Turkish hospital was among the most important support mechanisms in the camps, and that Türkiye had contributed to regional and international initiatives toward resolving the crisis since its outset.
