Istanbul's public transportation network will operate with significant restrictions on Friday, May 1, as the city's governorship has ordered the closure of several metro stations and transit lines ahead of Labor Day.
The M2 Yenikapi-Haciosman metro line, one of Istanbul's busiest urban rail corridors, will bypass three stations without stopping: Sishane, Taksim, and Osmanbey. Trains will continue running along the full route but will not serve passengers at those stops for the duration of the restrictions.
The F1 Taksim-Kabatas funicular and the T3 Kadikoy-Moda tram line will be suspended entirely. The funicular connects Taksim Square directly to the Bosphorus waterfront at Kabatas, while the T3 tram serves the residential and cultural Moda neighborhood on the Asian side of the city.
At Sisli-Mecidiyekoy station, all entry and exit points will be closed to passengers except for the Meydan exit, significantly narrowing access to one of Istanbul's major interchange hubs.
The Istanbul Governorship said the measures will remain in effect until further notice. No timeline for the restoration of normal services was given.
