Istanbul's municipal council approved a 10% increase in fares for public transportation, taxis and school services on Friday, with the revised pricing set to take effect on July 20.

The latest adjustment comes after the city's previous 20% public transport fare increase in February, as fuel costs have climbed since the Iran war began on Feb. 28.

New fares across buses, rail and ferries

Under the revised tariff, a full-fare electronic ticket used on the city's buses, metro and tram network will cost ₺46.20 ($0.98), up from ₺42, while the student fare will increase from ₺20.50 to ₺22.55.

The monthly Blue Card subscription will climb from ₺3,298 ($69.96) to ₺3,628 ($76.96), while the student monthly pass will cost ₺653, compared with ₺593 previously.

Metrobus fares are also moving higher, with a one-stop trip increasing from ₺30.07 to ₺33.08, while journeys covering 34-43 stops or more will cost ₺68.59, up from ₺62.35.

Marmaray passengers will also pay more, as journeys covering 1-3 stations increase from ₺34 to ₺37.40, while trips spanning 36-43 stations will cost ₺82.17, compared with ₺74.70 before.

Ferry services are included in the price revision, with the Uskudar-Eminonu route rising from ₺53.20 to ₺58.52, Kadikoy-Eminonu and Kadikoy-Besiktas crossings increasing from ₺59.28 to ₺65.21, and the Bostanci-Adalar route climbing from ₺156.26 to ₺171.89.

Taxi and other transport

Taxi passengers will also face higher charges, with the meter opening fee increasing from ₺65.40 to ₺71.94, the per-kilometer rate rising from ₺43.56 to ₺47.92, the hourly waiting charge moving from ₺544.45 to ₺598.90, and the minimum fare increasing from ₺210 to ₺230.

Minibus passengers will also pay more, as the short-distance fare for trips of up to 4 kilometers climbs from ₺39 to ₺43, while fares for journeys covering 4-7 kilometers, 7-11 kilometers, 11-15 kilometers, and 15-20 kilometers increase to ₺45, ₺46, ₺47, and ₺52, respectively. The student fare also rises from ₺25 to ₺28.

School transport fees are likewise being revised, with the charge for trips of 0-1 kilometer increasing from ₺4,051 to ₺4,456, while personnel service fees climb from ₺2,284.54 to ₺2,512.99. The updated pricing across all services takes effect on July 20.

Fuel prices, which have already climbed this week, reached ₺65.69 per liter for gasoline and ₺73.16 for diesel on Istanbul's European side, leaving gasoline prices 14.4% and diesel prices 22.3% higher than pre-conflict levels.
