Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) will begin implementing a “silent airport” model on May 10, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance passenger comfort and modernize terminal communication systems.
Under the new arrangement, routine public address announcements across the terminal will be significantly reduced. Only emergency notifications, critical safety warnings and operationally mandatory announcements will be broadcast over the loudspeaker system.
In place of frequent audio announcements, passenger information will be delivered primarily through digital channels. These include terminal flight information display systems (FIDS), airline mobile applications, SMS and email notifications, as well as ISG’s official mobile application.
The airport’s AI-powered digital assistant, SAVVy, will also play a central role in the new system. Accessible via the airport website, mobile application and WhatsApp integration, SAVVy will provide real-time flight updates, terminal guidance and passenger support services on a 24/7 basis.
Airport authorities stated that the initiative aims to reduce noise levels within the terminal environment and improve overall passenger experience. By minimizing repetitive announcements and strengthening digital information systems, the ISG seeks to create a more efficient and comfortable travel process.
The “silent airport” model follows a growing international trend in aviation, where airports increasingly rely on digital communication tools to reduce acoustic congestion and enhance operational clarity.
With the reduction of routine announcements, passengers are advised to closely monitor flight information screens and gate displays and to remain attentive to boarding times and gate changes. Airport officials emphasized that passengers will be expected to follow flight updates through digital platforms rather than relying on repeated audio calls.
