An altercation involving a knife attack at a busy ferry pier in Istanbul’s Besiktas district led to four people being injured, including the suspected attacker, after police intervened and fired warning shots.
The incident took place on May 8 in the Sinanpasa neighborhood, on Cezayir Street, directly in front of the Besiktas ferry pier, a key transit point connecting different parts of the city by sea.
According to initial reports, a person armed with a knife targeted an individual with whom they reportedly had a prior dispute.
As the situation unfolded in a public area, nearby police officers quickly moved in after noticing the confrontation.
During the intervention, police reportedly fired warning shots into the air while attempting to subdue the attacker.
During the operation, bullets ricocheted and struck three bystanders as well as the suspect.
All four injured individuals, including the attacker, were taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities stated that none of the injuries were life-threatening, suggesting that those affected are expected to recover.
Police teams continued to examine the scene following the incident, working to establish the full sequence of events.
