A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the Tusba district of Van in eastern Türkiye on Thursday morning, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The earthquake occurred at 8:52 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located in Van’s Tusba district. AFAD said the quake was recorded at a depth of 7 kilometers.
The tremor was felt not only in Van but also in surrounding provinces, including Agri, Bitlis, Igdir and Hakkari, prompting residents to feel the shaking across a wide area and causing brief panic.
Authorities said the earthquake was widely felt in eastern Türkiye, with people reacting to the sudden shaking in multiple provinces.
AFAD stated that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the quake.
In a written statement, the agency said: “Following the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 08:52 in the Tusba district of Van and was felt in Van, Agri, Bitlis, Igdir and Hakkari, there is currently no negative situation. Field scanning efforts are ongoing. We extend our best wishes to affected citizens.”
Officials noted that field scanning and assessment efforts are continuing in the region to determine any potential impact, while monitoring activities remain ongoing.
