Prosecutors in Kahramanmaras said a document dated April 11, 2026, was found on the computer of the gunman who carried out a deadly school shooting in the Onikisubat district.
They said the document indicated the suspect planned to carry out a “major act” in the near future.
Investigators, however, said there is so far no evidence of any terror link and that the attack appears to have been an individual act.
In a written statement, the Kahramanmaras Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said the attack took place at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ayser Calik Middle School.
The statement said nine people were killed in the shooting, including 1 teacher and eight students, while 13 students were wounded, six of them seriously. The attacker was found dead at the scene.
The prosecutor’s office said 3 deputy chief prosecutors and 10 prosecutors were assigned to investigate the attack.
It said autopsies had been completed and the victims’ bodies were handed over to their families for burial.
In the search of the attacker’s home, authorities seized digital materials, including his personal computer and mobile phone.
According to the statement, examinations of those digital materials found content on the gunman’s computer dated April 11, 2026, indicating that he would carry out a “major act” in the near future.
The prosecutor’s office said that based on the evidence currently available, no terrorism connection had been identified.
“Based on the current evidence, no terror link has been identified regarding the act, and the preliminary assessment is that the act was carried out individually by the perpetrator,” the statement said.
The office said the investigation was continuing in depth and in all aspects.
Prosecutors said five handguns used by the attacker were seized at the scene.
A forensic examination found that the guns were licensed in the name of the gunman’s father, police chief inspector Ugur Mersinli, the statement said.
It said the father was taken into custody and, after giving his statement, was referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace and arrested.
The prosecutor’s office also said legal action had been launched against accounts that made provocative posts despite a previously imposed broadcast ban on coverage of the attack.
It said the investigation was also being deepened to examine digital platforms that may be trying to direct children toward harmful acts.
At this stage, the statement said, it was important not to rely on posts other than statements made by official and authorized authorities.
The prosecutor’s office said the investigation into the attack was continuing thoroughly and on all fronts.
