Significant traffic congestion has been recorded on the Ankara-bound lanes of the TEM Motorway passing through Duzce, as citizens travel to their hometowns and holiday destinations for the nine-day Eid al-Adha break.
Following the extension of the public holiday, a large number of motorists departing from Istanbul toward various provinces in Anatolia and the Black Sea region have led to increased vehicle density on the highway. Traffic flow toward Ankara has slowed significantly at several checkpoints, causing stop-start congestion and long vehicle queues.
In contrast, traffic heading toward Istanbul has been reported to be lighter than normal, with a smoother flow observed in that direction.
The heavy traffic buildup, which began intensifying on Friday with the start of holiday travel, was also documented through drone footage, revealing extended lines of vehicles along key sections of the motorway.
In response to the increased traffic volume, traffic enforcement teams have heightened inspections along the route. Authorities have issued warnings to drivers, urging them to avoid speeding, maintain safe following distances, and refrain from unsafe lane changes to prevent accidents.
Officials further stated that traffic density is expected to rise particularly during Friday evening and on the eve of the holiday, advising motorists to exercise patience, follow traffic regulations and remain cautious throughout their journeys.
