An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed into a building in the Kazim Karabekir neighborhood of Samsun's Ilkadim district at approximately 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
At least three homes were damaged and the incident caused a brief panic among residents who initially mistook the impact for a natural gas explosion.
No injuries were recorded.
Police, fire, and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene following citizen reports.
Officers secured the area and collected the drone's scattered components. The device was described as weighing approximately 25 kilograms with a wingspan of approximately 1 meter and a separate tail assembly, consistent with the profile of a small fixed-wing reconnaissance drone.
Wreckage photographs showed what appeared to be a dark-painted frame with markings visible on one component reading "2427 02."
The pieces were transported to police facilities for technical examination.
"I heard an explosion sound, and I got scared. I have panic attacks. I immediately went to the window. I looked outside, and there was smoke coming from the building across the street," a resident told Ihlas Haber Agency (IHA).
"We thought it was a natural gas explosion. It made a very strange sound. We were very frightened," the resident added.
Other residents said they were thrown from their beds by the force of the noise and rushed into the street in panic. Several windows in nearby homes were shattered by the impact.
Turkish authorities have not yet confirmed who owns the device, where it originated, or why it lost control. Investigators said the drone's ownership and the cause of the crash would be determined following the technical examination.
