There are no negative developments regarding Turkish troops and elements stationed in the region following Iran’s missile attacks on U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq on June 23, the Turkish Defense Ministry said Monday in a statement.
“Necessary security measures have been taken for our units, and the situation is being closely monitored,” the ministry added.
Iran launched a barrage of missiles at the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, marking a dramatic escalation after the U.S. targeted three Iranian nuclear sites late Sunday.
The strikes, announced by Iranian state television Press TV, marked the start of what Iranian officials call Operation Bashayer Al-Fath, or Glad Tidings of Victory..
“Iranian Armed Forces carried out a destructive and powerful missile attack on Al Udeid base in Qatar in response to U.S. aggression,” Iranian media reported.
The number of missiles launched matched “the number of bombs the U.S. used in its attack on our nuclear facilities,” Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said.
IRGC, which claimed responsibility for the attack, said the strikes sent a direct message to Washington and its allies.
“Our message to the White House and its allies is clear — Iran will not leave any aggression against its sovereignty and land unanswered,” the corps said in a statement.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted the missile attack targeting the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base. No casualties were reported.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency also reported simultaneous missile attacks on other U.S. bases in Iraq but did not provide further details.
Qatar condemned the attacks and confirmed the missile interceptions with no immediate casualties.
A senior White House official confirmed the administration is “aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base.” The U.S. Embassy advised American nationals to “shelter in place” amid the escalating conflict after weekend U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The attacks came in retaliation for U.S. strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend ordered by President Donald Trump.
Iran’s Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi vowed Monday that the U.S. nuclear facility strikes “will not go unanswered.”
Trump warned any Iranian retaliation “will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed” during the weekend strikes.
