Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) said there is broad public backing for the government’s “terror-free Türkiye” initiative, with most citizens supporting the terrorist organization PKK’s decision to lay down arms.
However, officials noted that many remain cautious about whether the group will fully follow through.
Since Parliament recessed, AK Party leaders and lawmakers have been holding “Türkiye Meetings” across the country to engage with citizens.
Reports from the field suggest that both the “terror-free Türkiye” process and economic issues dominate public concerns. Party officials said the endorsement of the initiative by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli has strengthened public trust.
Officials said citizens frequently raised questions about ringleader Abdullah Ocalan, particularly whether he might receive amnesty.
AK Party representatives assured the public that such an outcome is not on the table. “There will be no amnesty for Ocalan. This will never be on the agenda. The state is not negotiating with the organization,” officials stressed, adding that Ocalan himself has expressed no wish to leave Imrali prison.
Alongside security, citizens voiced concerns about inflation and the rising cost of living. AK Party officials said inflation is trending downward and argued that the success of the “terror-free Türkiye” process could bolster economic confidence, raise purchasing power and positively affect growth.
