Turkish defense company Roketsan unveiled its EREN multirole loitering munition at IDEF 2025, featuring a unique capability to engage both air and ground targets with a range exceeding 100 kilometers while weighing just 35 kilograms.

The jet-powered munition can target slow-flying aircraft, including drones, as well as armored and unarmored ground targets, addressing emerging battlefield requirements where traditional offensive and defensive systems increasingly overlap.

Lightweight design, multiple platforms

EREN's 35-kilogram weight makes it lighter than Roketsan's UMTAS anti-tank missile, enabling integration across diverse platforms including unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, armored vehicles, naval vessels and containerized ground launchers.

"EREN is not just an air-to-ground missile that can track and destroy moving ground targets," Roketsan General Manager Murat Ikinci told Anadolu Agency's Technology Desk at IDEF 2025.

"EREN can also capture and strike an aerial target with its seeker head, possessing the speed and power to do so," he added.

The munition features an endurance exceeding 15 minutes and uses an optical seeker for terminal guidance, prioritizing speed and optimal strike timing over prolonged loitering capabilities. You can even carry approximately eight of them in an ATAK helicopter.

EREN's testing near completion

Ikinci revealed that EREN's testing phase is nearly complete, with the system demonstrating successful engagements across multiple scenarios.

"This is a product whose tests are almost complete. EREN's basic function is this: It's a munition capable of multiple mission definitions. It can be integrated into many platforms and contains air-to-ground, air-to-air, ground-to-air, ground-to-ground capabilities all within itself," Ikinci said, speaking to a Turkish defense media outlet.

He emphasized the cost-effectiveness of the system: "Compared to others, it has both lower cost and is suitable for multiple launches."

The containerized version displayed at IDEF can conduct counter-saturation attacks through multiple launchers. Ikinci highlighted that EREN's turbojet engine enables it to move much faster than UAVs.

"It can strike UAV from a UAV. Or it can track and strike moving ground targets from a UAV. Combining all of these in a single missile, on a single platform, is an advantage for our armed forces," Ikinci noted.

"EREN will soon be included in our inventory. It has been tested successfully, and its integration into various platforms is on track. This is a game-changer for our defense capabilities," Ikinci added.

Designed for launch from multiple platforms, EREN is adaptable to diverse military scenarios. It can be deployed from UAVs, helicopters, land-based vehicles, and naval platforms, making it a flexible option for modern military forces. Its guidance system and long endurance also enable it to tackle targets with precision in various mission contexts.

Global market potential

EREN addresses tactical gaps in modern warfare where UAV attacks have become increasingly common. Units equipped with EREN could defend themselves from considerable distances while maintaining offensive capabilities.

Ikinci claimed that Türkiye's UAVs and munitions are "by far the best in the world," noting that munitions have been successfully tested in virtually all conditions. He emphasized that no other country possesses the variety of munitions that Türkiye has developed.

"Our goal is to continuously develop technology that will carry our advantages to the highest possible levels. EREN is another contribution we've made to our own arsenal," he said.
