Russian missile debris washes up on Türkiye's Black Sea coast in Istanbul, Samsun

Parts of the booster motor from a Russian-made 57E6 surface-to-air missile, used by the Pantsir air defense system, have washed ashore at two locations on Türkiye's Black Sea coast, in Istanbul and Samsun, in the latest instance of war debris drifting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Military ordnance destroyed on Samsun beach

In Samsun's Bafra district, military ordnance found on the beach was destroyed in a controlled detonation by Coast Guard teams under extensive security measures.

The incident occurred on the coast of the Fener neighborhood in Bafra.

According to initial reports, residents who noticed a suspicious object on the beach reported it to the local neighborhood headman. Gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area following the report and established a security perimeter, preventing residents from entering the site.

Examination determined the suspicious object was military ordnance.

Coast Guard teams who arrived at the scene took the necessary safety precautions before destroying the ordnance in a controlled detonation.

No casualties or property damage were reported, and the area was reopened to the public once the destruction process was completed.

Suspected war debris recovered in Istanbul

Separately, military ordnance was found on Ormanli Beach in Istanbul's Catalca district.

The ordnance, assessed to have drifted from the Black Sea, was taken into custody by authorities.

Residents discovered an object believed to be military ordnance on the beach and reported it. Coast Guard teams dispatched to the scene established security measures around the object and closed the area to public access.

Following the initial examination, the ordnance, assessed to have drifted with the currents from the Black Sea as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, was secured by Coast Guard personnel.

An investigation into the type and origin of the ordnance has been launched, and work related to the incident is ongoing.

Drone wreckage was also found in Bartin

In a separate incident, a fragmented unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was found washed ashore by waves on Cakraz Beach in Bartin.

The drone wreckage is to be sent to Ankara for detailed technical and forensic examination.
