One Turkish fisherman was killed and four others were injured after a Turkish-flagged fishing boat was attacked in the Black Sea off Sevastopol, Türkiye’s Coast Guard Command said Friday.
The Coast Guard Command, affiliated with the Interior Ministry, said it received information on June 5 that the Turkish-flagged fishing vessel DURU 67 had been attacked west of Crimea, off Sevastopol.
The boat was damaged in the attack and later sank, according to the statement.
The Coast Guard Command said a nearby fishing boat, BURAK KAYA, quickly evacuated five injured fishermen from the sinking vessel and began moving toward Inebolu.
One of the injured fishermen, whose condition was serious, died during the journey.
Following the report, Turkish authorities coordinated with the BURAK KAYA to deliver urgent medical support and transfer the injured fishermen to health facilities.
The Coast Guard Command said its vessel TCSG-96 departed Inebolu Port at 12:35 p.m. with a 19-member expert medical team on board.
The team included four doctors and 15 UMKE personnel, nurses and auxiliary health staff.
The Coast Guard vessel reached the BURAK KAYA at 7:20 p.m. north of the Turkish Search and Rescue Region, 115 nautical miles from Inebolu Port.
The body of the fisherman who died and the injured crew members were transferred to the Coast Guard vessel.
Medical treatment began on board after the transfer, and the vessel then headed back toward Inebolu Port.
The Coast Guard Command offered condolences for the fisherman who lost his life and wished a quick recovery to the injured.
