A National Intelligence Organization(MIT)-led security team is currently in direct contact with the terrorist organization PKK leadership at Qandil and has formally requested a disarmament timeline and roadmap from the organization.
The PKK's response, including a schedule and inventory for emptying caves and weapons depots, is expected within one week to 10 days, Türkiye daily's Yucel Kayaoglu reported on Friday, citing security bureaucracy and ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) sources.
According to the report, a team from MIT and the broader security bureaucracy is presently at Qandil in active talks with the PKK leadership.
The organization has been formally asked to produce a disarmament timeline and roadmap, including an inventory and evacuation schedule for its caves and weapons depots. Once Qandil talks conclude, the security team will return to Türkiye with the PKK's roadmap in hand.
The government's own prepared timeline and roadmap will be matched against the PKK's submission, according to the Türkiye daily. Common ground will be identified, feasible demands determined, and a zipper system, where government steps and PKK steps alternate in sequence, will be activated according to a defined calendar.
Kayaoglu also reported that the security bureaucracy has been conducting the highest-level talks with PKK ringleader Abdullah Ocalan at Imrali Prison, covering both the disarmament timeline and an assessment of the legal steps that will accompany any agreement.
Ruling AK Party sources told Kayaoglu, "Our preparations are complete. The process will advance through administrative and legal arrangements and presidential decrees. Organization members will be subject to different procedures."
"Türkiye will have nothing to do with those who remain in Iraq or want to stay in Syria after laying down arms; they will be subject to those countries' laws. But steps will certainly be taken regarding those who lay down arms and return to Türkiye," the sources noted.
