Türkiye’s parliament on Friday adopted a resolution condemning Israel’s expanded occupation in Gaza and genocide against the Palestinian people.

The General Assembly convened under Speaker Numan Kurtulmus for an extraordinary session to discuss Israel’s ongoing attacks, its policies that lawmakers said amount to genocide and famine, and the wider situation in the region.

The resolution, signed by Kurtulmus, was later read aloud in parliament.

‘Genocidal Netanyahu government’

The motion said Israel’s decades-long policies of occupation, destruction, and annexation had “turned into genocide in Gaza over the past two years.”

It declared that the “genocidal Netanyahu government” has “deliberately condemned the people of Gaza to hunger and famine,” confining them to a “death and hunger prison.”

With the expansion of its military operations, the motion said, Israel escalated “massacres and oppression,” killing nearly 70,000 people — mostly women and children — wounding more than 150,000, and destroying much of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.

The resolution added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his circle, “not content with these heinous actions,” have sought to “annex all Palestinian territories, including Gaza.”

Criticism of global inaction

The declaration criticized the lack of international response, saying that apart from the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, no global body has acted to halt Israel’s “unlawful decisions and massacres.”

It noted, however, that some states that previously remained silent or supported Israel have now recognized Palestine and adopted boycott measures. The resolution described this development as a “major success of humanity’s conscience.”

The Turkish parliament urged the international community to intensify pressure on Israel for a lasting cease-fire, a withdrawal of its forces, and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

“We urge that Israel’s membership in the U.N. and other international bodies be suspended until it halts its genocidal policies,” the declaration said.

It further called on all national parliaments to cut military and commercial ties with Israel and to work toward lifting the embargo on Palestine.

The motion emphasized the two-state solution, urging countries to recognize Palestine and to join the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine, which was founded in Istanbul in April under the Turkish parliament’s leadership.
