Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss the conflict between Israel and Iran and the potential global and regional implications of the escalating tensions.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart, Lavrov, in a diplomatic consultation regarding the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
During the call, both ministers addressed the conflict between Israel and Iran and examined the possible global and regional repercussions of the mounting crisis.
Fidan characterized the developments as concerning and emphasized that diplomacy represents the only viable path to ending the hostilities and resolving disagreements related to Iran's nuclear activities.
The current escalation began with Israel's extensive strikes against Iran on June 13, targeting nuclear facilities in various Iranian cities as well as high-ranking military commanders.
The Israeli operations resulted in the deaths of Iran's Chief of General Staff, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, several senior military officers, and nine nuclear scientists. Iranian authorities reported a total civilian death toll of 78 from the attacks.
Iran's military responded with ballistic missile strikes against Israel, which reportedly killed 13 people and wounded more than 400, according to available information.
The Israeli strikes have drawn international condemnation, with Türkiye among numerous countries criticizing Israel's actions.
The diplomatic contact between Türkiye and Russia reflects growing international concern over the potential for wider regional destabilization as tensions between the two Middle Eastern powers continue to escalate.
