Türkiye detains 298 in nationwide counterterrorism ops targeting Daesh network

Around 298 individuals suspected of being affiliated with the Daesh terrorist organization, following a coordinated series of operations across 47 provinces, Türkiye’s Interior Ministry announced Wednesday.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared the update via social media, emphasizing the country’s firm stance in its ongoing fight against terrorism.

“We have apprehended 298 suspects linked to the Daesh terrorist organization. These operations, led by our Police and Gendarmerie forces, have been conducted intensively over the past two weeks,” Yerlikaya stated.

Operations led by police and Turkish intelligence

In operations coordinated by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices, Turkish intelligence, and the Counterterrorism and Intelligence Departments of the General Directorate of Security, 159 suspects were detained in the following provinces:

Adana, Adiyaman, Agri, Amasya, Ankara, Antalya, Aydin, Balikesir, Bilecik, Bolu, Bursa, Corum, Denizli, Diyarbakir, Duzce, Elazig, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Kahramanmaras, Kayseri, Kirikkale, Kirsehir, Kilis, Kocaeli, Konya, Kutahya, Malatya, Mersin, Nevsehir, Ordu, Sakarya, Samsun, Sivas, Sanliurfa, Tekirdag, Yalova, and Yozgat.

Authorities stated that the suspects were engaged in Daesh operations and involved in providing financial support to the group.

Gendarmerie operations target propaganda and financing

In separate operations led by the gendarmerie under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices and the Gendarmerie General Command’s Counterterrorism Department, 139 additional suspects were arrested in: Aksaray, Amasya, Ankara, Adana, Adiyaman, Antalya, Artvin, Burdur, Bursa, Eskisehir, Hatay, Igdir, Istanbul, Izmir, Kahramanmaras, Kirikkale, Kirsehir, Kilis, Mersin, Mugla, Sakarya, Sanliurfa, Tekirdag, Van, Yalova, and Zonguldak.

These suspects were reportedly involved in financing Daesh and spreading its propaganda.

Weapons and evidence seized

Security forces also seized unlicensed firearms, organizational documents, and digital materials during the operations.

Minister Yerlikaya praised the efforts of provincial governors, prosecutors, Turkish intelligence, police and gendarmerie leaders, and the officers who carried out the raids:

“I extend my appreciation to our heroic police and gendarmerie personnel. Unity, solidarity, and determination are our strongest assets in the fight against terrorism. We will continue our operations without interruption to ensure the safety and peace of our citizens.”
