Greek media closely followed Türkiye’s defense industry developments, with Athens-based outlet Defence Point reporting that Türkiye is continuing work on its domestically developed cruise missile, GEZGIN.
In a report titled “Türkiye is developing its own Tomahawk missile,” Defence Point compared GEZGIN to the U.S.-made Tomahawk, noting that the Turkish missile is being designed for launch from land platforms, warships and submarines.
The report said GEZGIN was designed to strike targets with high precision and would play a critical role in increasing Türkiye’s strategic independence.
Defense Point said the missile could strengthen Türkiye’s long-range strike capability and provide a significant advantage in regional balances.
While development and testing are ongoing, the outlet said assessments by analysts and defense experts indicate a major leap in Türkiye’s defense capabilities.
The report noted that GEZGIN’s official range has not been disclosed.
However, various sources cited by Defence Point estimate the range to exceed 1,000 kilometers, with some assessments placing it between 1,400 and 1,600 kilometers (870 miles-994 miles).
According to the report, GEZGIN is designed to strike targets accurately from long distances, a feature that could significantly enhance Türkiye’s regional and strategic deterrence capacity.
Defense experts cited by Defense Point described the missile as particularly suitable for critical targets requiring precision strikes, underlining its role in reinforcing Türkiye’s technological independence and defense industry expertise.
The report said multiple tests of the GEZGIN cruise missile have been successfully completed.
It added that encapsulated test firings were carried out in Aksaz using the Submarine Test Infrastructure (DATA).
Integration efforts with the MIDLAS National Vertical Launch System are ongoing, and GEZGIN is planned to be launched from land, air, naval and submarine platforms.
Defence Point listed the missile’s key features as high precision through advanced guidance systems, low-altitude flight with terrain-following capability, a domestically developed infrastructure aimed at reducing foreign dependency, and long-range strike capacity contributing to strategic deterrence.
The report concluded that the development of GEZGIN demonstrates Türkiye’s commitment to domestic production and independent technology in the defense industry.
