Türkiye's Trade Ministry has introduced an online service for foreign-plated vehicles, enabling drivers to check their vehicle's legal stay period and sign up for email reminders before their permitted stay expires.

The platform, "Yabanci Plakali Tasit Islemleri" (Foreign-Plated Vehicle Procedures), is available on the ministry's official website under e-Services. It is offered in both Turkish and English for accessibility to foreign nationals.

This initiative addresses a recurring issue each summer, when heavy border traffic leads some drivers to enter the country without clear information on their vehicle's permitted stay. Most foreign passport holders, except those with a residence permit, are allowed a maximum stay of 90 days under current regulations.

If the permitted stay is exceeded, drivers may incur financial penalties and administrative difficulties. The new platform aims to prevent such issues.

The service allows users to check their vehicle's permitted stay period, complete pledge declarations electronically, register and verify contact information, and receive automated reminder emails before the stay limit expires.

The platform also serves as a central hub for information on foreign vehicles. Users can access announcements, the Vehicle Pre-Declaration Application, a frequently asked questions page, a Vehicle Guide, and payment options for traffic fines and tolls.

In a statement, the ministry said the service reflects a broader push to strengthen its digital infrastructure.

"Our ministry is resolutely pursuing efforts to facilitate procedures for our citizens and for foreign vehicle users entering our country, to reduce congestion at border crossings, and to prevent grievances arising from overstays," the statement read.
