President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye is prepared to contribute to efforts aimed at sustaining the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, during talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday on the sidelines of the International Peace and Trust Forum in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat.
According to Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, Erdogan welcomed the extension of the truce between Pakistan and Afghanistan and underlined Ankara’s readiness to support the mechanism established to preserve stability and prevent a return to conflict.
He said Türkiye stands ready to contribute to maintaining the absence of hostilities between the two neighboring countries.
During the meeting, Erdogan said Türkiye is working to strengthen its “good relations” with Pakistan and will continue efforts to expand cooperation across a range of areas, including energy, trade and investment.
The leaders also discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments during their meeting at the forum
Erdogan noted that Ankara aims to deepen cooperation with Islamabad in various sectors as part of broader efforts to reinforce ties between the two countries.
In addition to his talks with the Pakistani prime minister, Erdogan also met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the forum.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues.
Erdogan said Türkiye is seeking to advance cooperation with Turkmenistan in all fields, with a particular focus on trade, energy, the defense industry and culture.
He also congratulated Berdimuhamedov on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality.
The International Peace and Trust Forum in Ashgabat is being held to mark the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the United Nations General Assembly’s designation of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.”
The forum brings together leaders and officials to discuss peace-building, regional stability and international cooperation.
Erdogan returned to Türkiye on Friday after completing his visit to Turkmenistan.
