The Turkish Presidential Directorate of Communications has issued a strong rebuttal to claims published in the Aydinlik newspaper, which allege that Türkiye’s Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) is directed from NATO headquarters.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the Communications Directorate condemned the report titled “Disinformation Center Run from NATO Headquarters” as unfounded and ideologically driven.
“The claim that the Disinformation Center is managed from NATO headquarters is baseless, false, and itself a product of disinformation,” the statement said.
The Directorate emphasized that the DMM operates solely in line with Türkiye’s national interests and is tasked with combating disinformation campaigns targeting national security and public order.
Addressing references to NATO-related training and internships, the Directorate clarified that such programs aim to cultivate skilled personnel capable of representing Türkiye on international platforms. Describing these initiatives as “recruitment” or “co-optation,” it said, is misleading and harmful to national interests.
“It is of utmost importance for the public to trust statements from institutions with clear mandates and to be cautious of publications driven by suspicious or ideological motives,” the statement continued.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from misleading information and upholding Türkiye’s national interests. “The DMM will continue to fight all forms of disinformation, especially those that threaten our national security and international relations,” it added.
