Türkiye will launch a new visa system for Libyan nationals starting Sept. 15, offering easily obtainable long-term and multiple-entry visas, Trade Minister Omer Bolat said Thursday.
The announcement came during the second round of the Türkiye-Libya Joint Working Group meetings in Ankara, attended by Libya’s Transport Minister Mohammed Al-Shahoubi.
Bolat said bilateral trade reached $3 billion in the first eight months of this year and is expected to close at $4 billion by year’s end.
“We target $5 billion in trade volume next year,” he added.
Turkish contractors have completed 641 projects in Libya worth $31.5 billion, and cooperation also extends to education, health and tourism, Bolat said.
He announced that the long-delayed Türkiye-Libya Joint Economic Commission (JEC) will reconvene in December for the first time since 2009. A Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) deal is also set to be signed in Istanbul.
Bolat said Ankara sees opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, mining and renewable energy, while construction issues remain on the agenda.
Libyan Transport Minister Al-Shahoubi welcomed the visa move and stressed growing connectivity, noting that about 50 flights operate weekly between the two countries.
He also highlighted investment prospects in Libya’s oil sector under the government’s “Return to Life” strategy, which includes major infrastructure and hospital projects—many carried out by Turkish companies.
