Türkiye will help restructure the Syrian army amid perceived threats from Israel, following a military training and advisory agreement signed between the two countries. Turkish media outlet Yeni Safak reports that the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) will provide Syrian soldiers with commando and infantry training identical to that given to Turkish troops.
Under the program, Syrian soldiers will travel to Türkiye to receive training from TAF. After completing the courses, participants will continue their education under TAF supervision in Syria. The initiative also includes establishing military academies and non-commissioned officer (NCO) schools for Syrian soldiers, following a model previously implemented in Somalia and Libya. Reserved quotas will allow Syrian military students to attend Turkish war colleges and NCO schools.
According to Turkish media, training will take place at a center in Serinyol, Hatay province, similar to previous facilities used to train Syrian opposition forces. Soldiers will live, eat, and train on-site in a closed, disciplined system. The duration of the courses will match the standard TAF program, ensuring Syrian troops receive the same training schedule as Turkish soldiers.
High-level talks between Türkiye and Syria are expected to increase, including visits by Syrian Navy and Air Force commanders. Türkiye is ready to establish a joint training center immediately upon official invitation from Syrian authorities.
