Türkiye’s newest deep-sea drilling vessel, set to operate in the Black Sea, anchored off Tasucu Port in Mersin as it prepares for certification ahead of deployment.
The second of Türkiye’s twin next-generation drilling ships arrived off the Mersin coast following the first vessel’s arrival on Sept. 30.
The seventh-generation ultra-deep-sea drilling ship, recently transferred to the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), is anchored roughly 1 mile off Tasucu Port.
Capable of drilling up to 12,000 meters in deep water, the vessel will remain at port for accreditation and certification procedures before being dispatched to its mission area.
The new ship will join Türkiye’s growing drilling fleet, following Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni, and Abdulhamid Han, as well as a fifth vessel awaiting deployment.
The names of the fifth and sixth ships have not yet been announced.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar previously stated that the sixth drilling ship had successfully reached Türkiye, noting: “Our sixth drilling ship has arrived. It will begin operations next year and drill six new exploration wells across the Black Sea.”
The newly expanded fleet marks another step in Türkiye’s efforts to strengthen its offshore energy exploration capacity.
