Türkiye’s state-run defense manufacturer Roketsan signed new cooperation agreements with Saudi and Australian partners at the World Defense Show 2026 on Tuesday, aimed at expanding its defense and aerospace partnerships abroad.
According to a company statement, the strategic partnership agreement with Australian defense company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) will focus on the joint development of laser-based weapon technologies and coordinated projects for the global defense market.
The partnership brings together the two companies’ complementary capabilities in directed energy systems and is structured to deliver integrated solutions for future operational needs.
Laser weapon systems rank among Roketsan’s core specialization areas. The company’s ALKA Directed Energy Weapon System uses electromagnetic and laser technologies against asymmetric threats, including unmanned aerial vehicles and first-person-view drones.
Roketsan began serial production of ALKA in 2023, and the system is listed as the only energy-based weapon currently in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces, where it is used to help protect critical military facilities and state institutions.
The cooperation agreement with EOS will support the defense capabilities of both Türkiye and allied countries, Roketsan General Manager Murat Ikinci stated.
"Our cooperation with EOS will increase the operational efficiency and mission success of our proven directed energy weapon system solutions, and with this partnership we aim to become the best in the world in laser weapon systems in the future," he added.
Alongside the Australian partnership, Roketsan also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Investment Ministry and the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), the body that oversees and regulates the defense industry in Saudi Arabia.
The memorandum sets a framework for joint work in defense and aerospace investments, including identifying new project opportunities and aligning with sector investment targets. It also outlines steps to expand the role of local suppliers and connect them with international defense supply networks.
Roketsan said the arrangement is designed to reinforce domestic manufacturing capacity and broaden the national defense ecosystem, supported by the company’s background in platform development, system integration, sensors, command and control technologies, and its established production base and regional partnerships.
